Here’s a terrific write-up on a local business Pilates Studio M in the Packing House, which offers acrobatic aerial circus-style routines as part of its training.

Intimidating and inspiring.

Maria Bernhard uses those two words to describe working out on the silks – doing the acrobatic aerial circus-style routines clients can learn at Pilates Studio M, which she’s operated out of the Packing House in Claremont for the past year and a half.

Hanging from the purple fabric like a Cirque du Soliel performer isn’t for everyone. The artistic flips, turns and poses require a solid core and upper body strength, lightness and flexibility, and a background in dance or gymnastics doesn’t hurt, Bernhard says.

But the beauty and unusual nature of the workout is more than enough to attract a following of college students (who can take classes for credit) and athletic-artistic minded adults who are looking for something fresh to break up boring fitness routines.

Visitors to Claremont can phone ahead to schedule drop-in sessions, when available, at 909-625-3333. Their website is PilateStudioM.com.
