Waterwise Community Festival

California Botanic Garden and Sustainable Claremont present a day of fun and learning about California native plants, waterwise landscaping, and how each of us can contribute to watershed health while helping our region build for a sustainable future. This free event will fill the gorgeous spring grounds of California Botanic Garden with informative booths and educational activities focusing on native plants and watersheds, family-friendly crafts and storytime, musical performances, mini-workshops and walks providing information about landscaping with California native plants, and more.

Fun and informative exhibitor booths will feature representatives from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Chino Basin Water Conservation District, LA County Dept. of Public Works, California Native Plant Society, Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum, TreePeople, City of Claremont, Inland Empire Waterkeeper, Council for Watershed Health, San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector District, and more. Several family-oriented craft and activity stations will welcome participants to get hands on with water- and plant-themed art and storytelling. LA-based organization Living Earth (https://www.livingearth.la/) will curate an afternoon of musical performances inspired by the native plant surroundings at CalBG. California Botanic Garden staff will offer free mini-workshops on gardening topics such as lawn removal, irrigation, plant selection, and more. Artist Lachlan Turczan will debut new, dynamic water art. Local designers and landscape companies will be available for consulting. Water experts will present talks on watershed health, water history in the region, and restoration efforts in our local watersheds. Attendees can also take advantage of food and drink for sale, California native plants available for purchase at CalBG’s Grow Native Nursery, and an array of fun and helpful raffle prizes.
