Join us for an elegant autumn evening at the historic Claremont Graduate University President’s House, a beautiful Monterey-style residence designed in 1931 by architectural designer Helen Wren — one of only a handful of homes known to have been designed by this important but long-overlooked figure in Claremont’s architectural history.
Enjoy the beautiful garden with live jazz, festive hors d’oeuvres, and libations catered by Gourmet Gourmet, while portions of this remarkable historic home will be open for viewing. Sponsored by Sunset Magazine.
A SPECIAL EVENING – A RARELY SEEN HOME
The Sunset Reception is Claremont Heritage’s traditional kickoff to Home Tour Weekend—a festive evening celebrating the homeowners who generously open their doors for “Homes With History,” Claremont Heritage’s 44th Annual Home Tour, taking place Sunday, October 11, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
We are especially grateful to Claremont Graduate University for welcoming us to this remarkable historic property and providing guests with the rare opportunity to experience both the home and its garden.
A HOME DESIGNED BY HELEN WREN
Originally built as the Sugg House at 709 Harvard Avenue, the residence was completed in 1931 and represents the final known residential design of Helen Wren (née Rolph), whose remarkable career offers a fascinating glimpse into the often-overlooked contributions of women to early 20th-century architecture.
